So, What does this service allow me to do?

my.memova allows you to back up the contacts you store on your mobile phone to an online address book. This means, for example, if you lose your phone or SIM card, you don't lose your contacts. It also gives you the option of adding/editing/deleting your contacts online, from any internet-enabled computer in the world

Do I need to install any software on my phone?

In a lot of cases, no. Many phones have a sync client already on them. All you need to do is turn it on.
If your phone does not have a sync client on it already, you may be able to use our client. Many phones are already supported by our client, and many more are being added regularly. Check here for a list of phones that are supported.

Do I need to know how to configure my client or phone?

No. We'll do all that for you. All you need to do is fill in your phone number, and we'll either send you the configuration settings for your phones sync client, or we'll send you a link to download ours.

How does Sync work?

In simple terms, sync works like this: You initiate a sync by starting your sync client. Your phone will then contact our server, and will compare the contacts on your phone with the contacts in your online address book. Any contacts that are only on your phone will be added to your address book. Any contacts that are only in your address book will be added to your phone. It's that simple.

Can I still edit my contacts?

Yes, of course! Because our service utilises two-way synchronisation, it doesn't matter if you prefer to edit your contacts on your phone or in your online address book. Let's say you have a contact called “Joe Bloggs” on your phone, with no details. You add a phone number for that contact on your phone, and then you add an email address for that contact to your online address book. The next time you sync, the phone number will be added to that contact in your online address book, and the email address will be added to the contact on your phone. Your contact is now “synced”.

What happens if the same details are changed on the phone and in my online address book?

Let’s use the example used above, of Joe Bloggs again. Imagine you have your contacts in sync, and on your phone you change his phone number to 123456, and in your address book you change it to 654321. This is known as a “conflict”. In your settings on the my.memova site, you specify what happens in the event of a conflict. You can choose for the phone to overwrite your address book, or for your address book to overwrite your phone, or for the contact to be skipped.

Can anyone else access my data?

When a sync request comes from a phone, we check the phone number, the username and the password. When a user tries to login to the site, we check their username and password. To ensure your contact information remains secure, do not share your username and password with anyone.

What about all the contacts that I already have in other places, like my Gmail contacts, my Yahoo contacts etc?

We can show you how to export those contacts and import them to your my.memova addressbook. Have a look at the videos here to find out more.

Ok, I want to get started. What do I do?

The first thing you need to do is configure your phone. Or rather, tell us where your phone is so that we can configure it for you!
For non-iPhone users:

  1. From the homepage, click on the my.mobile link

  2. If you would like, you can give your device a name (like “Work Phone”, “My N65” etc) or leave the default value of my.device

  3. Click the “Configure your phone” link

  4. Now, you need to enter the phone number of the device you want to configure. This is so that we can send the configuration settings directly to your phone. Enter your phone number in the following format:

    • <country code>< phone number>
    • Note that you drop the leading zero from your phone number. If, for example, you have an Irish phone (country code: 353) with a phone number of 087 123 456 78, enter the number as 3538712345678

  5. We’ll figure out if your phone has its own sync client, or if you need ours. If you have your own a message will be sent to your phone, containing a link to the configuration settings. You will need to enter the pin shown in your web browser (this is so we make sure you have access to the phone, and that no-one else is trying to use your number to sign up for the service). If you need our Sync client, we’ll send you a link to download from. When you download the client, it’s already configured with your details.

  6. Open the message to follow the link.

My phone is configured, how do I sync?

Once your phone is configured with the service details, you can perform your first sync. To access the sync client, refer to your phone's setup guide. We also have a number of videos to show you where the sync client is on various models of phone, and we are adding new videos all the time.

Generally, the sync client will be available under the contacts menu (called something like ‘Synchronise clients”), or in the settings menu.

Initiate the sync by starting the client. If you are prompted for the Sync Setup you'd like to use, select “my.memova”

Your phone will then carry out the sync operation. If you encounter an error, first verify that you can access the internet from your phone, by starting the browser. If you cannot access the internet, contact your service provider for the configuration settings you need. If you can access the internet, but not the sync service, look in our Support forum for service announcements and further resources.
